Curculionidae (Snout weevils) - Uncovering Gondwana

The Curculionidae with over 82,000 species are the largest and most diverse family within the Curculionoidea superfamily. Limited taxon sampling of such a diverse group precludes clear conclusions about the origin and evolution of host associations or their continental origins. However, Nicole Gunter and colleagues in 2016 concluded that both the Brentidae and Curculionidae diverged close to 124–128 Million years ago coinciding with the early appearance of  flowering plants.
