Elateroidea - Uncovering Gondwana

The Elateroidea with ~24,000 descried species in 16 families  belong to major and oldest Polyphagan lineages. They evolved unique defensive strategies in distantly related lineages including clicking mechanism, aposematic coloration and bioluminescence. The Throsidae are one of the earlier evolving clades and Lycidae is basalmost amongst the very large clade of higher elateroids including Lampyridae, Cantharidae and Elateridae.
