Noctuidea - Uncovering Gondwana

The Noctuidea with about 11,700 species are the second-largest family of the super-species rich Noctuoidea superfamily. The earliest diverging subfamily appears to be Acontiinae followed by Plusiinae and Acronictinae. The most spectacular diversification rates in association with flowering plants appear to have been just at the end of the Cretaceous.
