Pterophorioidea - Uncovering Gondwana

The pterophorioidea superfamily comprises a single family, the Pterophoridae (plume moths) and appear to be the nearest relative to the Alucitoidea. They too have unusually modified wings and, although included in the Apoditrysia along with large moths and butterflies, are tiny explaining why they were previously included in the “microlepidoptera”. Three subfamilies are known in Australia.
